  • Of the eight bracket winners, six were from the first division, and two (CASL United and the Winston-Salem Twins Blue) were from the second division.
  • Five of the top eight seeds made it to the quarterfinals. The #2 seed GSC Gold was the highest seed to fall. They were in the same bracket as CASL United and FVAA Flash Red.

United Smothers Fire with Dominating 3-1 Win

We saved our best game of the season so far for the Kepner Cup finale as we defeated the USA Fire (a strong 5-2-3 team in the second division west). The final score could have been at least 5-1 as Alex Alberti and Kyle Griffin barely missed goals in the second half. Douglas Kosiba tied the game in the first half on a pass from Brian Grose, and then put us in the lead for good on an outstanding individual effort after a pass from Nathaniel Atkinson. Kyle Griffin scored the final goal after a corner kick by Brian Grose.

We finished a strong second in our bracket with 9 points.

Blue Blue after Loss in Cold

United upset the 1st division Gaston United Blue by 2-1 on a cold Sunday morning in Wilmington. Alex Alberti, making his first start on offense, got us off to a great start with a hard shot into the net, and Douglas Kosiba scored our second goal on a pass from Ben Rice. We held off a determined Blue team in the second half to win our first State Cup game.
