United, Stung by non-calls, tie Sting

Despite controlling the game, the United had to settle for a 4-4 tie as two Sting goal were blatantly aided by the offensive player being clearly offsides. We were behind 3-1 at the end of the first half, but came back with three goals to take a 4-3 leade with only a few minutes left. However, the Sting tied it in the final minute as their recruit from the Mexican national team :-) scored yet again. Douglas Kosiba scored the first and third goals and assisted on the fourth goal with a pass to Kyle Griffin. Kyle also scored the second goal.

Flash: Flash Win

There is no joy in mudville as the Flash defeated Triangle United Gold 1-0 for the championship in our division.

Late breaking news: The final game was reduced to penalty kicks because of the field conditions. Evidently the fields we played on were closed after our game!

Breaker, Breaker, Another Tie

The United ended the tournament with a 0-0 tie against the Cape Fear Breakers Blue. Both teams were rather blue with cold by the end of the game, played on a muddy field on a very cold day. We had a lot of opportunities and were showing improved play but could not bring home the win. Coach Panos said that this week's practice would focus on the art of how a goal is scored.

United Avoids Ambush with Second Half Comeback

In a game shortened to 25 minutes halves, the United came back from a 2-0 deficit to salvage a tie with the host team. The Ambush scored two goals after long throw-ins, but we struck back with two goals by Kegan Tawney. Kegan scored the first goal on a penalty kick and the second on a pass from Douglas Kosiba as he outraced the defenders and the keeper to slam home the tying goal. The game was played in mud and rain and cold, not exactly ideal conditions for the players or their parents.

Ohio Flash Edges United with Last Minute Goal

A premium soccer club from the Columbus, Ohio area scored a last minute goal to edge the United 2-1. All goals were scored in the second half with the Flash scoring in the first minute on a penalty kick and then in the last minute. Robert Kenny scored our goal on a penalty kick. The Flash won our division, but were fortunuate to escape this game with a win. They were a very physical team, to say the least, and Kyle Griffin had to leave the game in the second half after being cleated.
